Our Impact

Four years. 300+ Students.

2018-2019

We came up with the idea of a Java Summer Camp that would introduce coding basics to students early on. After months of dedication, that vision became a reality. It took the form of a 2-week summer camp held at Crossroads Community Center where students learned about programming concepts for 4.5 hours each day. The culmination of all the student's hard work came in a group presentation on the last day of camp. In front of all their parents, campers showed off all they had learned by displaying projects that they had built! Taking inspiration from this experience, we felt the need to grow this idea and hold camps virtually this year in light of the current situation. We are excited to see what summer 2020 shall bring!

2020

In the summer of 2020, we ran virtual Java camps and career workshops to help students keep in touch with STEM, even during the tough pandemic situation. The two-week long camps held on Zoom taught coding concepts for two hours every other day, with hour-long tutorials available on the days in between to help students review content (often through the form of fun team-based games like 'Code Racers'). As the camp came to a close, students shared their final projects with their peers, and we had fun exploring projects like funny interactive stories and creative ASCII art designs. It was truly inspiring to be able to teach over 157 students this summer, and we hope that we can grow to help even more students with their fledging academic careers!

2021

To introduce the diverse career opportunities in STEM, we organized the College and Career workshop series that spanned from February to March. We invited college students and industry professionals to share their journey of discovering STEM and what inspired them to pursue their area of interest. These workshops also had Q&A sessions which allowed students to learn about the college experience and workplace environment.

Over the summer we partnered with Afflare Education, a local nonprofit, to reach underprivileged students and ran our annual summer camps.
